Clean Beauty: Origins

Since I was running low on both my cleanser and exfoliator, I decided to see what products I could switch to with less chemicals and more natural ingredients. I decided to try Origins–the Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash ($13-$29) and the Original Skin Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay ($13-26).

The Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash is quite frothy and feels great on the skin. There is also a refreshing mint scent. I use this face wash for my evening skincare only. In the morning, I don’t use a cleanser, just a toner before moisturizer. My skin is mostly normal, a little oily in t-zone, but I have been using for about two months with no major breakouts or sensitivity.

I use the Original Skin Retexturizing Mask with Rose Clay about 1-2 times a week after washing my face at night. I apply the mask and wait about 10 minutes for it to dry. Then I  splash a little water to reactivate and exfoliate, the mask has jojoba beads to gently exfoliate. My skin always feels amazing afterward.

I would definitely recommend both of these products. Have you tried any “clean beauty” products recently? I think my next search will be for a toner. Have you tried any new products? Let me know!

Clean Beauty: Biossance

With the surge in health issues in the US, I have been trying to switch over to products that are clean and mostly free of chemicals. My first thought was that only health food stores would carry these products, but after some searching, I was able to find some products at Sephora.

Sephora has labeled some products and brands that they carry as “clean”. This means that the ingredients do not contain parabens, sulfates, formaldehyde and many other harmful chemicals. Some of these chemicals act in the same way as our natural hormones and can disrupt the functions of our hormones. Possible side effects include, irregular menstrual cycles, increase risk in breast cancer and tumors, and other reproductive issues.

I am currently using the Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil and Squalane + Peptide Eye Gel from Biossance. The Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil is supposed to brighten and visibly firm skin. The Squalane + Peptide Eye Gel is supposed to reduce puffiness and dark circles. These are pretty pricey products, but I was able to get a great deal as a set. I use the eye gel morning and night and the rose oil as my evening moisturizer. I have seen a beneficial change in the tone and texture of my skin, but not too much of a difference in my under eye area. This maybe more due to work stress and lack of sleep. I think I might try the Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream next time.

Biossance

It has been a couple months of using these products and I am definitely interested in trying more products from this line as well as other “clean” seal brands. Just thinking about the chemicals that can seep into our skin from these products is  scary thought.

What are some clean beauty products you have tried?

Best Skincare Dr. Jart Cicapair

Korean skincare has been gaining popularity for the past few years and rightly so. With trends in glass skin and dewy natural skin, I’ve been interested in trying out some products, but it’s hard to know where to start.

A brand I’ve seen on Sephora is Dr. Jart, but never purchased any products. But I finally decided to try out the Cicapair Tiger Grass Color Correcting Treatment and I’m so glad I did! Not only is it a great skincare product but it also provides the perfect amount of coverage with a natural look. In the jar, the product is pale green, but once it’s blended into the skin, it turns into beige color that matches your skin tone. It sounds crazy, but after seeing the short video on Sephora, I decided to try it out.

After using it for a week, I was so amazed that I made my sister try it. She loved it so much that I offered to transfer some into a travel container for her, but she refused. She went out the same day and bought her own at Sephora, lol! She tends to have larger pores and the Cicapair blurred the pores and made her skin look amazing. It also has SPF 30 which is always a bonus.

Cicapair is even better than any tinted moisturizer or BB/CC cream that I’ve tried.  I’ve tried so many, but they’ve always left a slightly oily feeling, gray mask, or not enough coverage to make a difference. Cicapair doesn’t leave any of these! I usually apply my moisturizer with SPF, then apply the cicapair. To set I use a little loose powder and my skin looks pretty good all day.

Simple Nighttime Skincare

About a year ago, I was sucked into the 10-step Korean skincare craze–I bought everything, even multiple products for each step. I was so obsessed with trying to get the perfect routine down to reach my “KPOP idol” skin goals. Every morning and night, I would take the time to complete each step…

Fast forward a couple months, I did not see many results. In fact, my skin was a little worse for wear and did not feel great. My skin actually felt a little oilier. After to trying to get though as much of the products as i could, i was able to narrow down my skincare to four-five steps depending on the day. To some, five steps may still seem like a lot, but my skin has never been happier.

Step 1: Micellar water to take off any makeup or just oils/dirt built up from the day

Step 2: Gentle foam cream cleanser

Step 3: Exfoliator (every other day)

Step 4: Toner

Step 5: Rose hip oil https://amzn.to/2ENdGw9
